The best thing about orchestra rehearsal is listening to the orchestra play without you. Soon this Beethoven journey will be over!! #flute #flauto #flöte #fløte #flûte #beethoven #violinconcerto #tacet #counting #yay #amazingsoloist #butcounting #overkill #almostconcerttime #selfie #funnyface #normalface #powellflutes
Hilary Hahn performs Bach’s E Major and A Minor Violin Concertos in Switzerland. Hugely enjoyed watching this.

Shostakovich’s astonishing Violin Concerto in A Minor, played by Hilary Hahn. It now occurs to me that some of my favourite violin concertos are in A Minor: Bach’s Violin Concerto in A Minor, Glazunov’s Violin Concerto, and that of Shostakovich. The latter is an incredible work, keeping you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
The great Tomaso Albinoni’s Concertos, from Opus 9. Previously, I was only aware of Albinoni’s hauntingly beautiful Adagio in G Minor (adapted into a hearty ballad by Lana Fabian here). Later, I discovered in reading that he had been one of many influences on a certain J. S. Bach. But I have not properly listened to his music until the last 2-3 days. Albinoni’s concertos remind me why I enjoy the light, energetic sound of Italian Baroque.
