Principles
In this lecture we had to trace the key poses of walk cycles we searched for in GYPHY, each had to choose four walk cycles.
I found this lecture very fun because it helped me understand that not every walk cycle works the same in terms of lengh if the key poses, and some key poses and be mixed depending on how the character walks, for instance it up and pass poses can be the same as well as the contact and down poses, wich I found very interesting to discover.
The fact that I chose gifs of characters that move in very different ways has made it easier to spot the principles of animation, for instance the squash and strech of the torso of the first gif, and the twist/ overlaping action of it’s shoulders, The secondary action the third gif of the dress and feather wich also has a follow though, and in the fourth the secondary action of the arms, jacket and hair and the overlaping action of the bumping head. It is not something you really think about when you look at it ramdomly but this exercise has halped me become more aware of said details/ principles in a “simple” animation such as a walk cycle. They all share the Arc principle in the legs and arms (those who have them) and exxagetarion for all of them exept gif 3.
There isn’t much to say about the second gif exept the arc and the exaggeration.
It also helped me relax a little about the dynamic walkcycle and be thankfull I came up with a simple design, I think that it will be a lot harder to make the walk cycle for the character design brief because my character is quite complex and it need to be in colour...
PS: whenever the gifs are mentioned as 1, 2, 3 or 4 it is reffering to the pair of the same GIF, the original and the one I worked on top of.
