hc + 🚶‍♂️ for a habit-themed headcanon

anya has certain habits that verge on being considered dermatillomania. she has a tendency to pick on skin, gnawing on the inside of her cheek or biting her lower lip. this is, by most people's standards, generally considered to be a bad habit, being something that she does to cope with stress.

another routine habit of hers that isn't considered bad or unhealthy by most standards is the routine applications of her eye contacts. being nearsighted, she tends to prefer them over wearing glasses in most cases; having something that sits on the bridge of her nose for too long is just a bit too irritating for long periods of time, as far as she's concerned. so, she makes it a point of putting in her contacts, usually right after she wakes up, and taking them out before going to sleep.

even when she's wearing her glasses for the day, she'll still sometimes start the motions of taking contacts out before realizing that isn't necessary.

THAT EVERYTHING HAS A MIDDLE GROUND / THE STORY LIES IN THE MIDDLE. Curly's the eldest brother of three, and often he was put in the situation of being the "man" of the house beside his father, including being the go-to sibling for his younger brother & sister. if fights break out between his siblings, he's usually the one who has to settle the difference. because of this, Curly has a habit of wanting to appeal to the majority instead of taking individual actions. it's why the Company loves him as a Captain: he thinks bigger picture, and doesn't meander on case-by-case priorities. he's willing to be the devil's advocate to see all sides before settling on what he determines as the right course of action. he doesn't like simmering on emotions for too long when he gets into that business mindset, like Curly can bisect his mind to "Business/Captain" mode to "Grant Curly" mode. the problem is that the Captain persona often overshadow Grant himself.

unfair but ur oc is gonna have to be compelling from the jump if ur impatient or else ur gonna find urself disappointed that no one fucks w. them immediately. ocs really dont get this little grace / wiggle room of improving over time like canons or building over time u have to come out the gate swinging with your concept in hand ready to be served to the girlies in a way which theyve never in their life experienced i mean servin while doing cartwheels and breathing fire. only then can u start adding more building blocks. then u go from great to amazing. which yea that's unfair but that's life out here in these streets lol. also if u write multiple ocs, understand that theyre not all gonna be poppin equally. there will always be that one that gets all the love n stuff. that's ok. like some ppl gravitate towards yulia more than they do vi or they'll gravitate towards gianni more which is w.e! different audiences for 3 entirely different characters.

like i understand that vi is my main attraction. ive had him for almost a decade and he's a freak show.

Just like her brother, even if she'd kill you if you said this in her presence, Summer is very often attention-starved. She might be Beth's favourite, her parents' choice when it comes to picking between her and Morty, but it doesn't mean that she gets more than the bare minimum. Or that she gets said attention on a regular basis.

So, while she might get easy crushes on popular / good-looking people like most teenagers, the real way to win her heart is to show genuine interest in her. Be it by making time to spend time with her, listening to her bitching about her family, taking her out / letting her take you out, or even just sitting together during lunch break and chatting.

To sum it up, what wins her over is being there for her. Not her as an obligatory choice between two, not her as Rick's granddaughter or Morty's sister. Her as Summer Smith, independently from her family and other connections.

This is the reason why she's friends with Nancy, in spite of what she says and how she treats the other girl at times. Nancy likes Summer for Summer and she gives her attention, without demanding anything in return, not even the same treatment.

Summer loves gifts. Beth and Jerry have never been great at providing emotional support and attention to their children, but they have always made sure that they had everything they needed from a material point of view. Food, clothes, presents (no matter how lame) on their birthday and for the holidays.

So, both Morty and Summer have grown up with the unconscious ideas that "presents = love". Nowadays, they both know that the equation isn't valid, but it's still something well-rooted in their subconscious. While Morty has started to get over it, thanks to Rick's (unhealthy, demanding, twisted) attachment and attention, Summer hasn't really had a chance to do the same yet.

So, if you want to get in her good graces? Woo her? Get her to crush on you? Turn her into a loyal friend? Buy or make her stuff. She likes cool clothes and jewels the most, but anything works. Make-up, flowers, body / hair products, books she could like, tickets to a concert, even just the invitation to some popular party. You name it.

There's a part of her that's aware of how easily she "sells" herself at times, and she also knows how vulnerable this can make her. Yet, she dismisses it as something she can deal with, something she's tough enough to face. It's easier than digging out the roots of why she's turned out this way.

Those words stopped Rick in his tracks. He didn't realize that the conversation had swerved directly right into the overly sexual with his counterpart. Usually it was that easy to get lost in such flirtations mixed with a bit of work talk. However, this time, he lost where he had been along with what the original conversation was about.

And if he had a bit more control, he wouldn't have gotten so explicit in front of his girlfriend. Especially given how things were between his boyfriend and Clarissa.

"Sh-Shit, Clarissa, y-you scared the fuck out of me, I thought you left or something," Way to make a big deal out of something so small to cover up the fact that he felt so very embarrassed about forgetting her. "Uh, right, l-let's just get back to wh-what we were doing,"

And if there was a hint of disappointment in his voice, it was meant to be covered by his rapid movements. Already making sure the workbench looked tidy and gathering the essential tools in order. Who knows what they would need for the project that the three of them planned out.

If we’re on the subject, I feel far more comfortable around people in the RPC who are open and honest with their boundaries, their stances on any particular issue, their wants/don’t-wants, what’s acceptable or not to them etc etc…than I do people who never express their true feelings and ultimately hurt others due to not having the backbone to communicate or to draw lines where they’re needed.

like honestly, the worst hurt I’ve endured in this hobby has been from people pleasers who won’t talk to my Neurodivergent, direct-communication-needing ass and blindsided me over problems that I’d been completely unaware of (hell, sometimes even AFTER I’d sensed something amiss and tried to reach out and address it myself).

Chronic avoidance of stepping on toes is ultimately a more selfish thing than being direct, because you’re prioritising your own avoidance of potentially uncomfortable situations over being honest with your partners. You don’t even have to be harsh with people, but I’d honestly prefer someone who’s a LITTLE harsh—while still honest, communicative and fair—over someone who tries to be too nice (or at least appear it) and always leaves their partners guessing. It’s not functional or healthy for anyone.
