They shared a hunger for life. Excess was for both Cleopatra and Antony a natural, joyful expression of that hunger - whether making love night and day, feasting on impossible rarities, giving each other fabulous gifts or just playing the fool. Their appetites were well matched, their ambitions on a similarly grand scale, and instinctively they responded to one another. Nobody else would ever be as close to either of them as they would become to the other, although the mutual realization of that truth still lay some way in the future.

I was wondering if you could explain your OTP tags for Cleopatra/Caesar and Cleopatra/Marc Antony? I’ve been curious about them for awhile!
Cleopatra/Caesar’s a pretty simpleish answer, found in quotes from Stacy Schiff’s excellent Cleopatra biography:
Caesar was very nearly deified in the last years of his life. Cleopatra was born a goddess.

To those who lined up for a view, on shore and along the causeways, Caesar and Cleopatra represented not a romance, but a sort of magical apparition from another world, the earthly visitation of two living gods.
Cleopatra was “Cleopatra VII Thea Philopator” aka Cleopatra the Goddess who loves her father. She (And most Ptolemaic Queens) were heavily associated with the Goddess Isis.
Caesar was, in fact, deified after his death.
Hence “OTP Gods that are way better than you”.
As for my Antony/Cleopatra tag (Dysfunctional OTP)...I mean...just LOOK at them. They were horribly dysfunctional. Clearly they were in love and everything but they were noooooot the most healthy, functional relationship in the world!

On the left/front of the coin is Cleopatra, wearing her hair pulled back in a chignon, with her royal Diadem on her head, with the head of Antony on the right/reverse of it.
Two thousand and forty eight years ago today, August 1st, in 30 B.C., Marc Antony committed suicide by falling on his own sword. He had suffered serious desertions among his troops the day before during the Battle of Alexandria and, despite an early victory, the desertions proved too much and he was ultimately defeated. After returning to Alexandria, he received false information that his wife, Cleopatra VII, had already taken her own life.
After the grief stricken man had already stabbed himself he was told she wasn’t really dead, and he was taken to her where she was in hiding with her ladies in her mausoleum. The doors had been barred against intruders and the dying man had to be hauled up to her through an open window. He survived for only a few minutes after he reached her, and died in Cleopatra’s arms.
Cleopatra herself would take her own life eleven days later, and her three children with Antony taken to Rome to be raised by his third wife, Octavia Minor. With Cleopatra’s death, and the subsequent murder of her eldest son, Caesarion, Egypt became a Roman Province.
