Music floated along the corridor, coaxed to life by lithe fingers. Georgiana had learned the piece just before leaving home for court, but there were no wrong notes. She had always had that knack. Playing music came effortlessly to her, as easy as breathing or smiling. Hearing the creak of the door, she looked over her shoulders without missing a single beat. The sight of her brother had her smiling even wider, nodding towards a free chair in the room. Often Elliot liked to sit and read while she played, which she was always happy to oblige. Once the last notes petered out, she finally spoke, turning to face him properly. “Do you have a request, dear brother?”
She knew that things were tense between her brothers right now. For all that she didn’t understand about the world, she did know her brothers well. Neither one had said a word of their conflict to her, but she was used to them sheltering her. Whatever the problem was, she was sure she could resolve it. Somehow.
For someone so open with her emotions, it always surprised people to know that Georgiana could meddle just as effectively as the rest of her family. “If you wish to hide here with your latest book, I would enjoy the company.” And just maybe, Phillip would come check up on her, and they would have to talk to each other.
