Indiana Rail Road Passenger Special (2 of 3)

In the first image, the fall passenger train has just departed Solsberry, Indiana, and is headed east (railroad north) toward Bloomington.

The evening shot comes from the west side of Bloomingto, near the interchange track with the former Monon, while the final image was taken at the Eleventh Street overpass in that town.

Once again, this is the former Illinois Central line to Indianapolis and the E-unit is of Milwaukee Road heritage (built in 1961 as 36A).

Indiana Rail Road Passenger Special (1 of 3)

We're on the former Illinois Central line to Indianapolis, which became the heart of the fledgling Indiana Rail Road.

In the first two images we see their fall leaf special atop the Richland Creek Viaduct (or Tulip Trestle), twenty-two miles west of Bloomington, Indiana. The third picture has the train stopped in Solsberry, seven miles up the track. The E-unit began life as 36A for the Milwaukee Road while the CF7 for the Santa Fe.

Concluding a three-post series: in the first image, the fall passenger special of the Indiana Rail Road has headed north out of Bloomington and is seen four miles east of town at Mt. Gilead Road.

The final two shots has the train on another high bridge, this one over Shuffle Creek near Lake Lemon—ten miles east of Bloomington.

Once again, this is the former Illinois Central line to Indianapolis, the E-unit is of Milwaukee Road heritage, and the CF7 is that of the Santa Fe Railway (obviously as that beast was an invention of that road).

Milwaukee Road Commuter, Chicago

This commuter train, just north of Chicago Union Station, is seen at a place called Wolf Point (which is no longer accessible due to a structure built over the tracks.)

The train is being powered by Milwaukee Road E9A 37A, built in April of 1961. I believe it may be saved and can be found at the Illinois Railway Museum.

Last of the Slant-Noses

I believe this was the last active slant-nosed E-unit. CRI&P E6 number 630 is seen in LaSalle Street Station, Chicago, Illinois. The distinctive locomotive was built for the railroad in October of 1941.

Joliet This image shows a Rock Island outbound commuter train clacking over the ATSF/GM&O tracks at Joliet, Illinois. This has always been a great spot for rail enthusiasts.

The wonderful station here is made from Indiana limestone, of which I'm a fan, growing up amongst the quarries of southern Indiana. The locomotive is an EMD E8A built for the Union Pacific in 1953.
