my other main e33 opinion is that i think verso is actually the reason there isnt a "middle ground" ending but by the time act 3 has hit the moment has passed-- by failing to give alicia's letter to maelle he doomed any chance there ever was of a compromise resolution. the only path left is the path of division-- light or dark, black or white, but not either or! woof!

naturally, versos reasons are completely understandable, and in fact theres no telling if him making different ones would have ended better at all-- but oof!

I genuinely think killing Gustave at the end of Act 1 is one of the best storytelling decisions of E33

Doing a "shock death" is very difficult, but also if you do it right it just WORKS, especially with everything we learn later about Verso, Maelle etc etc

I don't know how quickly you are supposed to put 2 and 2 together that the Little Boy is Verso/Verso's soul but for me it was the piano imagery... I was all ohh right Verso said he was more musical than artistic and the boy plays the piano, I see you

the ""romance"" between Verso and Sciel/Lune (I ended up with Sciel kinda sorta not so accidentally) felt like a very obvious male-gaze fanservice.

And I mean male gaze in the "the devs assumed the player would be a cishet man" and wrote the game according to it - CLEARLY you would want to bang one of the hot women ;)

It's very telling that the "main" characters in Act 1 and 2 are men and kinda work as the player surrogates, so the narrative twists around that.

Also personally I just saw the forced romance really weird, especially with Sciel - you have a fling with her but then she returns to her deep personal trauma and attachment to her husband, which is all fine and dandy but also imo cheapens her character if she's just willing to open her legs for Verso because... ?!?!

idk, the scene where Verso helps Sciel overcome her fear of water was much more satisfying and good to, you know, show them actually bonding in a meaningful way, not just go "talk to women three times and sex her"

(Yes, yes I know I could have friendzoned them both but also I'm curious... though I read somewhere you can only "romance" one but it was heavily implied he also slept with Lune like HELLO!?!? why make the man a whore... I guess this is just how French people live and love, freely and without shame LMFAO)

also random E33 theory I had that got completely jossed:

Early in the game you meet a Nevron that spawns flowers and after that you have a moment where Gustave sees a vision of Sophie.

So I kept under wraps a theory that all the Nevrons are actually Gommaged people and (gasp) we were killing our friends all this time! I think there was some thematic tie with flowers and Sophie so I thought it was a not-so-subtle hint.

Turns out it was just a red herring or I was reading too deep into it. The fake world ran a lot deeper. xD

it's funny that in E33 you can reach Warframe-tier ridiculous damage output, but I kinda played at my own pace and however I liked

i can't believe i missed the picto that kills you on battle-start...

it would have been so stupid-funny to combine that with the auto-res one and the one that damages enemies on death
