Eames memes A selection of photo memories from Charles and Ray Eames archive. Inveterate documentarians and collectors, the couple took over 750,000 photographs over the course of their 38 years together, of which over 300,000 are 35mm slides. Charles was once called a “photo maniac” by close friend and famed Hollywood director Billy Wilder, and I can see why. For those doings the math, 750,000 works out to about 60 photographs per day, every day, for 38 years. That is 2 rolls of long 35mm film to be developed/printed each day before they could even view a single image. Image how many photographs they might have taken given the efficiency of digital photography that we have today.
