Winter Chanterelle - Craterellus tubaeformis

*a distant hobbit shouts, "YELLOWFEET!"*

I was looking for black trumpets (shocker) and stumbled upon these.

Unfortunately, it was literally. The area I found them in was you-really-ought-to-be-using-your-hands levels of steep, and I was not because I was too busy holding my phone to get a sweet pic for the gram like a good millennial.

Hubris struck me low.

Maybe these mushrooms will actually taste good. Might cook with them tomorrow, haven't decided yet....maybe a cream sauce for...something. Pasta, probably.

But they took a very beautiful spore print. The spore prints of their cousins the black trumpet (Craterellus fallax) were wispy and ethereal. These were far better defined in comparison.
