Its silly how complex of emotions some animals seem able to contain.
Most people like to tell me that animals are nothing more, with only basic emotions, yet, with all my studying and research I've learned of so many who can experience things other than happy/sad/angry.
For example, birds shouldn't have mirror toys, from what I understand. It makes them think there's another bird in the cage, which is simple in thinking, but this simple way of thinking makes them feel the complexity of heart break due to the "other bird" not playing with them. Or even aggression over the same thing. Its dangerous.
Another example is in a lot of common pets ((cats, rodents, dogs, birds, just not fish and most reptiles)), which is grief. Many animals will stop eating and playing when they experience the loss of a bonded friend. They can experience grief so harshly that sometimes they never return to the deposition they used to have, or even, starve themselves.
Most animals can feel many emotions outside of just the simple ones, so I wonder why most humans think they don't.
Is it just a result of being uneducated? or is it a form of taking the guilt off of ourselves for succumbing to our human nature of exploitation?
Idk, but I think about this alot
