Eartha Kitten declares the festive period OVER! One final portrait taken this morning of Eartha with the pink flocked Christmas tree, which Pal is dismantling right this moment. It's actually a relief: I haven’t vacuumed in that corner for weeks.

On this day four years ago (28 July 2022) in Wood Green, a female British Shorthair cat went into labour and gave birth to a litter of kittens (perhaps on an old towel or some newspaper. I can’t verify; I wasn’t present). One of her wriggling, mewling offspring was our own Eartha Kitten! Yes, That Bad Eartha (aka Eartha Angel, aka Eartha Quake) turns four years-old today! (We brought our temperamental and intense fur princess home on 8 October 2022). I can barely remember what life was like “pre-Eartha” as her moods, whims, demands and routines dominate my existence now (my life is now cleanly divided BE (Before Eartha) and AE (After Eartha)). All these years later, I’m still mesmerised daily at how beautiful she is. I Googled the characteristics of Eartha’s zodiac sign and every word rings true: “Leo cats (born 23 July to 22 August) are the confident, dramatic and charismatic rulers of the household. They act like royalty, love being the centre of attention and expect you to treat your home as their kingdom. They truly believe they own the house and everything in it.” Pictured: Her Highness in May 2026, lolling ecstatically in her favourite chair. (Strictly speaking, it’s Pal’s chair but she claims it every chance she gets).
Received a “borderline spam” email earlier from my pet insurance company notifying me that today (20 February) represents National Love Your Pet Day – an excuse to post a moody glamour shot of my intense and wilful fur princess, Eartha Kitten (aka That Bad Eartha).
