I'm trying to create a film company in the future. Would I be able to use a word in trigedasleng for the name of the company? If so, please let me know if there are any legalities involving this, such as copy right issues (since you created it). I'm not sure if I need your permission because it's a language you created but I would rather ask out of respect. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
I already answered this via email, but just so everyone else knows, you can’t copyright individual words. Even if I objected (which I don’t), neither I nor any parent company I work for would have a leg to stand on if they tried to sue you for the use of a conlang word as the name of your company. I suppose in general if you’re using a conlang word created by someone specific, maybe it’s nice to ask them, but even if they object, there’s nothing they can do. Certainly in this case, I am honored, and wish you the best of luck!
(C.E.: I am not a lawyer. I’m pretty sure this is correct in the US, but don’t treat what I say as legal advice.)
