EASTERN SUMMER
it's done and on soundcloud! wooo! I'm really happy with the way it came out - more so than anything I've ever done before. Before I go into my longwinded bullshit about the process of making and what I learned, etc...Here's the track!
Okay so here we go. Things I'm really happy with:
- I think I got a really good sound on this track. I think I did a pretty solid job of mixing it - when I was listening to it at my house on different speakers and headphones, it seemed to stand up to other pro tracks reasonably well, which I'm really pumped about. I think I did a better job of eqing and placing sounds than I really ever have.
- I think I captured the mood and ambience I was looking for pretty well, although I guess I can't know for sure since I created it! I'll have to talk to people about it.
- I'm happy with the way I varied things throughout the track. In terms of the notes, most of the song is pretty similar, but I think I did good job of doing different stuff with what I had.
- In the past I had just made a group of two or three tracks and just labeled them "Background" - this time I had a few different synths that I picked out especially, and made sure they all had a place and a time, which I think helped with the mixing a lot.
- I made most of the synths I used, and I'm really happy with the way they came out.
Things I want to do better:
- It's not quite as loud as I would like - that's not SUPER important though.
- The drum track could be more interesting and varied. One thing that I liked about Ah Shit was that the drums never did the exact same thing twice.
- The transitions between parts aren't bad...but they could be a lot better.
- The drop doesn't hit quite as hard as I would like.
In general, I'm pretty happy with this track. Now really it's a matter of improving lots of little small things like transitions, EQ'ing, drum programming, etc. And not getting too cocky.
