You know what's wierder than a guy swimming in the East River? The fact that New York City's rivers aren't full of people cooling off and enjoying their local waters at the height of summer. Polllution has become so normalized that the sight of what should be, and was, normal human behavior has become odd nowadays. Fortunately, when I went in it was high tide when the deep and pure Atlantic waves rush in and clean our rivers as best they can.
