Lavender wakes up to Rylan holding her and for half a second, she feels herself sink into the bed blissfully, appreciating the warmth of him pressed against her. It only takes a minute for that bliss to quickly morph into something else. She doesn’t know who she’s more mad at, herself for getting to swept up the night before that she ended up in this position or him for encouraging it. Had he encouraged it? She remembers most of it, but she doesn’t really remember falling asleep, just the slow and hazy feeling that she was perfectly happy.
Since she’s awake first this time, she takes advantage of it, slipping out of the bed to shower and change as quietly as she can. She’s thankful that he’s still asleep when she slips out of the room all together, going downstairs to get a head start on breakfast. She throws herself into doing everything all by herself with an almost laser focus. Internally, she’s battling with the feelings waging war in her chest. She’d liked so much about what happened during the day prior, but she’d come to almost... resent him for it, too. It was like he was so good at being the perfect fake boyfriend that he was determined to fool her too and she needed a break from it, if she was going to get through the rest of this without having her heart crushed.
There’s no way there’s anything else between them. She’s firm in that belief. If he had wanted her, he probably would have done something about it by now. So, she hatches a plan in her head, one that begins with her avoiding him for most of the morning. The kiss on the cheek that she greets him with is brief and she manages to keep her distance, helping April with the baby throughout the morning.
It’s not until he manages to catch her in the kitchen that she says more than a couple of words to him, cradling a plate of muffins she’d also managed to make. “Do you want one? They’re gluten free but I promise they still taste good!” She’s smiling, but it’s obvious that something is slightly off. / @easytofiind
