Eating habits
These are not tips for how anybody should eat their food, but if it’s helpful for anybody that’s fine.
I don’t know how or when I developed those habits, but some of them are taste or aesthetically driven, some acquired from studying etc.
The intention is to make a list of what I have.
Using large or tiny cutlery. Large forks and knives will make it seem you eat tiny, and tiny spoons and forks will make you think you ate a lot of food, although it’s probably 20-50 grams.
Small plates/bowls. No need to eat more, than can fit in palm of the hand. Small plates/bowls are cute and it’s nice to hold it in your hand.
White/black plates. Color or ornaments distract me. Eating from white/black is making me aware of food and its qualities. Enjoyment of food begins with looking at it. Everything should look and smell good. Everything should be perfect. Never eat from red/yellow/orange plates — these colors are making you hungry, according to researches. That’s why fast food restaurants have those as part of their corporate design. Red and yellow are naturally attracting your attention, signalling for danger and summoning emotions.
Avoiding spices/additions. Spices and additions are making you hungry. And my stomach is not good with hot food. I use salt though.
Mixed foods. Having more than 1 ingredient on the plate I tend to eat them separately. Salads are disasters… I will eat meat and all ingredients one by one. Presumably it’s best to eat a mix to enjoy the composition, but I don’t like it. Food accompanied with a sauce is nice for me though. I wasn’t aware of this habit until recently, someone just pointed out to this.
Cutting everything in small pieces. It makes food last longer on the plate, makes me more aware of what I eat, of the taste, of the amount, and it’s nice to finish your food slowly, while everybody already finished and eat something different. Additionally slow food intake gives a faster feeling of fulfilment. I don’t always eat like that, sometimes I barely cut food and then stuff myself with it. It’s a rather terrible habit.
Chewing for long time. Pretty much self explanatory. It’s better for digestion.
Don’t like to eat in public space. Eating outside (on the street) makes my food feel unclean. Plus I need napkins, plus I don’t like fast food / street food. Extra: saves money. Also eating outside ruins breath and I don’t always have chewing gum. But I can eat a cracker taken with me in case of emergency hunger.
Restaurants. While I’m on a diet I didn’t go to restaurants so far. In Belgium they serve ridiculously huge portions, called Belgian Portion. It can make a normal eating person sick. It makes the pressure of eating much higher. In the past I tried to eat it all, not out of politeness, just the food was nice and difficult to reject. But later I’ve learned you can even throw it on the floor and they don’t mind (theoretically speaking). I don’t have a plan for action in the restaurants now. I guess I will just eat a small desert with tea or a small starter.
Calm background. No tv in the background (tv pisses me off). Calm music is possible, or music I like… Something which is not very distracting. Sometimes I eat sitting behind the computer although I keep reminding myself it’s not good.
Don’t buy what I don’t need. Food tends to spoil and I don’t like to spend on it. Spending on food makes me feel like wasting money. I buy long lasting food or something I really want/need. If I don’t eat bread — I don’t buy it. No cookies — no cookies. Pretty much self explanatory. Don’t keep that trash in the house.
Bio/eco, GMO free, soy, sugar free/diet, diabetic, fitness. Avoid at any cost! Sometimes there’s only bio/eco products available, then it’s the only option in the shop… Extra money spent: thanks, assholes. See #11. Fitness food is nice tho, but it’s meant for body mass gaining, I’m not dead-lifting yet.
Chinese tea ceremonies. It’s beautiful, tasty, slow, enjoyable, the tea and cups are gorgeous. See #2 and #3. Plus you can eat dry fruits with it — healthy small meal. It works like ASMR for me.
Milk. Love drinking milk. It’s like eating food, but it’s not really food... A mind trap.
UPD. Leftovers. I put remaining food on the plate or a pan back to the fridge, even if it’s 1 spoon or couple of pieces left.
Ok, that’s about it, becoming difficult to remember something else. So I should ask around and update if necessary.
OBESITY-AN INSIGHT!
Imagine a disease where there is no speciality to manage it, healthcare personnel are not taught how to treat it and lastly, people with it are discriminated-this is the reality of obesity! Obesity is a health issue and scientifically it is known to be like any other disease like hypertension and diabetes, but people are purely blamed for having it and claim it to be a matter of…

Can being a fast eater affect weight?
Can being a fast eater affect weight?
Are you a fast eater? Always the first one to finish your meal, or the last? Does how quickly we eat have any influence upon how much we weigh? Hypothetically, yes. And some studies may also back this up too.
The theory
When we eat food, there are a number of factors that tell our brains that we’re full and we should put down our fork. They are:
Striationsin the stomach. As we eat, our stomachs…

Young adults, who value gluten-free foods, are more likely to engage in healthier eating habits, finds a study. These young adults, according to the research, were more likely to engage in healthier behaviours including better dietary intake and also valued food production practices (e.g., organic, non-GMO, locally sourced).
Of concern, they were also more likely to engage in unhealthy…

Effect of encapsulated nitrate and elemental sulphur on methane production and microbial protein synthesis in beef cattle
Effect of encapsulated nitrate and elemental sulphur on methane production and microbial protein synthesis in beef cattle
pan SRUC seminar with Irene Cabeza, SRUC on 16th of March 2017. Methane produced from domestic ruminant enteric fermentation is the largest anthropogenic source of CH4. Alternative sinks need to be investigated to redirect metabolic rumen hydrogen (H2) away from methanogenesis and provide an energetic gain for the host animal. This PhD project has focused on potential additives to reduce methane…

Hiya Lauren, I have struggled with abnormal eating behaviour for the last 2 nearly 3 years, I have never been underweight so I don't consider myself to have a problem. I also struggle with minor depression and after being taken off medication I feel like I'm slipping back into it, I have no motivation anymore and I isolate myself a lot. I am receiving counselling but I also want to try and help myself. Any tips?😌 thankyou❤️
Hi lovely,
I’m sorry you feel like you’re slipping. I recently slipped back into a bad place and I know how bad it can feel. I think you should tell your counsellor about how you feel and hopefully they can help you as well. I’m not sure how your depression is but when I feel myself slipping back I distract myself. I read, watch a movie, spend time with my family and friends, go out, basically just spend time with myself and my loved ones. If you keep your mind active it’ll be harder for the depression to take over your focus.
Isolating yourself is a tricky situation. It only makes you feel worse but it’s all you want to do. I think you should speak to your closet friend and explain to them how you feel, maybe suggest them coming over and spending a few hours with you a week. You’re with a friend but you’re also in your own space. x
