Current Routine - 5 Things I do Now
So I don't currently have a job, I was let go and I'm searching for new job. That means I spend my days at home, where the temptation of food lies just in the other room.
I've worked out a routine that helps me stay somewhat on track. Yes there are days that I stray but for the most part I'm good.
First off: No Fizzy Drinks at Home!
I do love drinking pop but it has so many calories and I can never stop with just one glass. I've made it a rule that it can't be in the house but If I have a night out then I can order a glass.
Instead I drink mostly water. I have three water bottles in the fridge and I switch them out throughout the day.
In addition to water I drink a glass and a half of juice. I like Cranberry juice.
I know juice has sugar but I need a bit of that. I have a half glass of juice with my breakfast and a full glass with my dinner. The rest of the day is water and tea.
Tea is my other drink of choice. I usually have one cup of tea with my lunch.
Second: Eat Breakfast!
I am not a morning person but I have found in the last few weeks that waking up and eating something for breakfast helps me snack ALOT less throughout the day.
I don't mean a Full English Breakfast or eating the same thing everyday. There are so many options; Yogurt, Fruit, Eggs, Cereal, etc...
I usually switch between a piece of fruit or a few crackers with Peanut Butter and Jam.
Third: Lunch!
Lunch Time is another thing I've improved at. I use to grab all the wrong things for lunch. Some days I use to just eat chips for lunch.
Now I go for Toast with a bit of avocado and scrambled egg on top. I pair it with a cup of tea and sometimes a few baby carrots on the side.
Fourth: Snacking!
A small snack is something I give my self once a day. Not always at the same time but always once a day. Sometimes I's between Lunch and Dinner, sometimes it's after dinner as a sort of dessert.
My go to snack is a small bowl (a handful really) of Raisins. Sometimes however I need something sweet. When that's the case I have a bag of mini mixed chocolate bars and I select two to be my treat of the day.
Fifth: Dinner!
The number one thing I've realized is that portion control is a huge part of weight loss. Dinner varies everyday from beef to pork to chicken paired with various vegetables and starches (potatoes, noodles or rice).
The main key is to limit how much you eat. I use a small plate that I've had since childhood. It's divided into three sections (I guess you can call it a 'baby' plate). It makes it really easy for portion control. A bit of food in each section (not heaping portions) and only one plate of food. No second helpings. (I just pack the left overs away and save them for the next day)
So there's my little ramble about what I do. We'll see if it works in the long run.
