100% anyone who can should go commission her. She’s great and this is wonderful and i love it.
Haven was… different. So very, very different from what Eavhen was used to. Haven was large. It was busy and yet static. Temporary, but permanent. Tents had been pitched, but just until more buildings could be constructed. Everyone was working to create something solid and lasting and somehow holy and wholly unfamiliar to her.
Haven was full of humans. Of merchants and cooks and carpenters and healers. Of soldiers and sisters. From every corner they recited the Chant of Light. After every verse they looked at the sky. After every frightened glance to the Breach, they stared at her. They whispered. They followed. They invoked their god.
Haven was full of duties and expectations and so, so many staring eyes.
Haven was terrifying.
And it wasn’t just the number of humans, abundant though they were. It was a raised bed of straw in a building with four walls and a roof, where she couldn’t feel the wind on her skin or hear the owls at night. If there were owls at night. It was the food, which was bland and sat heavy in her stomach. It was the fact that most of the meat wasn’t smoked or salted. It was the layers and layers of armor and the boots she wasn’t allowed to forego “for appearances”; confining and chafing and wrong. It was the strange names that felt awkward on her tongue and the way they all called the Beyond “the Fade”.
It was the way they sometimes went quiet when she did simple things like washing and eating, until someone inevitably pulled her aside to tell her how she was doing it wrong. It was the expectation that she would simply know things- things out of history, out of books, how to read- because “everyone knows this.” It was the baffled looks when she occasionally slipped and said a word in elven, or didn’t know the human names for some plants at all.
It was how people would order her about until they realized who she was, and the number of times she heard “knife-ear”. The way people tried to assure her that they treated “their elves” well.
It was the lack of familiar faces and the panic that struck every time she thoughtlessly invoked the Creators where others could hear.
It was not knowing who to trust and an all consuming loneliness.
The good days, her chest didn’t tighten at all and it never got hard to breathe. There were rarely good days in Haven. So she would stay up late into the night, past when most of the town went to sleep, wrapped up in a blanket and as few layers as she could get away with, staring into a fire and wishing for home, praying to gods whose names she could hardly say in daylight anymore for the strength to stay.
“Here,” someone said, as a mug came into view before her. “Compliments of Ruffles.” As Varric sat on a log to her side, she took a tentative drink and nearly cried. Berries, honey, and halla milk. Eavhen didn’t know what her expression was, but it was definitely more open than she’d allowed it to be since this started.
“Josephine?” she asked. He shrugged.
“I may have given her a tip. Daisy always made it when she was homesick.” Eavhen could’ve hugged him then, if she dared risk spilling any of her glorious drink. “I’ve got something from Nightingale, too.”
Varric pulled out a piece of parchment from his coat pocket. “Is that-”
“Your keeper wrote back. Want me to read it to you?” She nodded, her chest growing tight for an entirely different reason than usual. And as she drank in the taste of home, and listened to the words of her clan in a friendly voice, she sent thanks to Mythal for giving her the strength she needed to make it a little longer in Haven.

14. How Nightmare would appear to them in the Fade.
Eavhen sees herself, consumed by the mark. As you might guess, Trespasser is kind of a terrifying ordeal for her.
