We had a great time at the East Bay Zine Fest! The rock dove print was a star of the day!
EBABZ 2018
I tend to reminisce and romanticize the past. I like to think back and review good events in my mind, often times thinking about how I could have done this or done that differently. Artists apply for shows all the time and zine makers are no different. I applied for the EBABZ or the East Bay Alternative Zine fest for several years and hadn’t gotten in after tabling at the event for a few years. I continued to apply and think back about how great it was in the past. I was super surprised and excited when I got accepted to table at the 2018 zinefest. This past weekend was my first time tabling at EBABZ since 2015 and it was so strange. Good but strange. I really missed doing this show especially since I live in the East Bay. The dynamics of the show has changed alot and I like the changes. I noticed more Brown and Black folks, more Queer and non-binary folks and just a newer fresher feel to the show that felt more like a more accurate representation of Oakland and the Eastbay.
I always have a good time chatting with people and showing my new zines and comics to folks that are interested. The fest was well organized and the volunteers were all very friendly and helpful. I had amazing neighbors in Amber Padilla and Anand Vedawala. So many good conversations and laughs. It really makes a big difference in how well your day goes if you are sitting next to welcoming folks who help cover each others table and just have good vibes.
Big thank you to the organizers and volunteers and everyone who came by to support and share. Here are a few photos and more on Flickr. Here, https://www.flickr.com/photos/storm1sky/albums/72157701254141472
