SILENT HILL f
Hinako my sweet baby what'd they do to youu :(
I visited Ebisugaoka~
thinking about how much Hinako loves Ebisugaoka and the people in it. like she loves her quiet little town with nothing to do really. she enjoyed her life there and her friends and having to leave it for marriage was clearly a major part of the trauma that seems to reflect (either purely in her mental world or the Otherworld corroding the imagery around her) that the town itself is becoming decayed and ugly but it's still precious to her.
complaints about the gameplay of late-Ebisugaoka in general aside, i always did love how Hinako becomes so furious at the decay of the town. she screams a lot about how the town has become so corrupted in anger and at the Fog for taking everything from her- i think its significant even outside of Ebisugaoka in Silence when she learns their full deal she's always horrified and devastated by the loss of her parents (coupled with Fox Hinako even telling her that she can visit them whenever she wants in Fox Wedding but that's a different discussion)
and it kinda reminds me of Higurashi a bit. despite how absolutely fucked up EVERYTHING is like... Hinamizawa itself is not bad. Keiichi loves it when compared to the city. the peace and serenity of the town itself is never a bad thing, even if Rika wants to leave it behind to move on with her future, it's the fucked-up shit affecting Hinamizawa that is bad.
it really stands out to me that in Ebisugaoka in Silence that Kotoyuki's letter specifically asks her how things are in Ebisugaoka, so we can reasonably assume she made the choice to return home after the marriage was annulled. whether or not Ebisugaoka is going to be destroyed is up to debate but i think it really speaks that in that ending she seemingly returns home to Ebisugaoka to where everyone else is- to reconnect with her home as she heals from everything, and possible to reconnect with Shu, Sakuko, Rinko, and even her parents?
i honestly lowkey wish this was a When They Cry VN series instead because i wish we could see more Ebisugaoka. it's so special to Hinako and having to leave it and everyone in it was a major source of her trauma and i think it's really notable that she ultimately in two endings makes the choice to return home, even if the future is bleaker in one of them

TRIVIA : Did you know that the town of Ebisugaoka in Silent Hill f is based on a real-life town called Kanayama, in Gifu Prefecture?
The developers used Kanayama as inspiration, taking reference photos and ambient audio from the area to help build the game's setting.
I had no idea the game team went that far as not only to replicate what the town looks like but sounds like too for authenticity. So cool.
