Okay, it's been a few days and it is STILL bothering me.
So, in my "History of Public Health" we are talking about the role of race in public health and during a group's presentation, we start talking about the disproportionate number of low income women (NON-WHITES) being offered long term birth control methods vs Non-low income.[ The topic was on forced sterilization of poc women]. This girl, A GRADUATE STUDENT, goes, " But what about white women?"
THE PHO? This whole week, has been dedicated to low income, poc women (mostly black and Latinas), Why the pho would you even mention white women? We will talk about them. We have talked about them. Like...no. I gave her the stinkiest glare ever. I don't think she saw it because she turned around just as she asked that question. UGH!
And my white friend made a passing joke about Ebola. Like the pho?! Ebola jokes are not funny. EBOLA JOKES ARE NOT FUNNY! EBOLA JOKES ARE NOT FUNNY! EBOLA JOKES ARE NOT FUNNY! Especially when I have family bordering those countries affected with Ebola. EBOLA JOKES ARE NOT FUNNY.
Am still not feeling better but I want to run to my own island where people have to prove themselves to be allowed to step on it.
