Hey, this is EBraunstein from DA :3 Was curious: it hasn't been established yet, so this is an "in your opinion" question, but what do you think, personally, is Keith's relationship to Shiro? Do you think the two are related in some way? I feel like they could be brothers or cousins, at least. They just seem to be really close, and with Keith's outbursts during Season 3, it's clear that they have some preconceived relations/a past of some sort. So, what do you think?
Based on what little we know in canon from S1 and S2, and Keith and Shiro’s close bond, my personal guess is some sort of familial relation, by blood or not. My guess is cousins or half-brothers or something of the sort. Keith’s dad looks a HECK of a lot like Shiro and I don’t think that’s a coincidence. Keith, from our understanding from the S2 lore, is born of a Galran mother and a human father, and with the resemblance of his dad to Shiro, I’m gonna go out on a limb and suggest that maybe what happened is that Keith was orphaned not long after birth, and was adopted by Shiro’s family, making him a half-brother to Shiro, of sorts. Or one of those situations where he’s not related in any way, but is adopted into the family early on in life and is basically like a brother in family terms.
I think Keith’s dad is Shiro’s actual biological father or uncle, and Keith was taken into the family at a young age after being orphaned, or welcomed as a really close friend when he had nowhere to turn. Shiro, in turn, played the Big Bro role as they grew up as friends/siblings.
In the Blade of Marmora, Keith refers to Shiro as “like a brother to me”, which to me heavily implies they at least spent a good portion of their youth together, and he often references that Shiro was there to guide and teach him. “He’s the only person who never gave up on me” implies Shiro could have had a hand in his upbringing to some degree, whether as a big bro or a cousin or a friend.
So, TL;DR -- I think they may not be blood brothers, but I think they have a brotherly/cousinly relationship due to a shared upbringing, where Shiro played the Big Bro role to a young Keith after he was abandoned by his birth parents.
Again, this is ENTIRELY just my own personal opinion, I know many people have much different viewpoints, especially those who are shippers, and I’m 1000% behind the mentality of You Do You :)
