I've spent far too much time going through ecfans.com's forums and now I've read too many negative snarky comments on my favorites books, and I'm feeling a bit irritable at people right now.
There are valuable opinions to be had from those forums, but it's hard to sift through all the criticism of Auel's writing. I love this series and I know I'm the type of person that doesn't like to over-analyze and nitpik. (One reason I would make a terrible editor and why I find writing workshops so trying.) Most of the time I'm perfectly happy being alone with (and in) my thoughts and opinions about something.
I've been staying up far too late looking through those forums, I need to take a break. I'm going to have enough trouble getting all my homework done over my spring break this week. But besides those humdrum adult responsibilities, I need to give myself time to work on my personal writing and actually read The Clan of the Cave Bear. :P
I know if I just read the series without looking into other people's nitpiky comments about it, I'll enjoy the books a lot more. I do want to contribute to the forum discussions, but maybe I'm just too soft when it comes to EC. (It wouldn't be the first time I was too emotionally sensitive over something.)
