I don’t think it was about the words. It might have never been about the words.
Echo of Silence (2008)

‘I’m fractured inside, Tazi. The scars of childhood should’ve long healed and yet they mark me still.’ Her eyes intent, she broke their handclasp to push up the sleeve of the soft blouse she’d bought from the market. ‘See this?’ She pointed to a scar just below her elbow. ‘I got his when I fell onto a rock while playing with my brother.’ Rubbing his finger over the faded line, he said, ‘A physical scar is permitted. A mental one, never.’ ‘According to who?’ Her fingers delicate against his jaw, the touch a fleeting one. ‘We’re all marked by life, Stefan. The only difference is that your people like to pretend they aren’t, that the Psy go through it coated in protective armour.’ Breath soft against him as their faces drew closer. ‘You’re not fractured. You’re just like the rest of us, living life and getting a few knocks and bumps along the way.’
Echo of Silence (Wild Embrace Anthology), Nalini Singh
“the Psy race had once felt the same emotions as humans and changelings. But something had changed long enough ago that in the present, it seemed as if they had always been formed of ice.”
—thoughts of Tazia Nerif, Echo of Silence (Wild Embrace) by Nalini Singh
Echo of Silence (Novella)
Not gonna lie, this is one of my absolute favorites. Answering “What are your intentions toward my Tazi?” with “I would marry her if she will have me,” when that is the most forbidden thing in the world, is a very hot thing to say. Reuniting a family torn apart, only for the best of all possible outcomes—*sigh*. A secret marriage hidden under the sea—*swoon*. A very modest woman and a Psy finding passionate love, but waiting until they are married to consumate it because it’s important to her? So sweetly hot. “For our daughter…She will not have to marry in secret.” Can *I* marry Stefan?
Number of showers:
Stefan: 2
Tazia: 4 (disposable whipes count as showering)
Rating: honestly, just leave me in the shower. I may never come out after this.
Happy Thursday
