ECLIPSE - ECHO - R6E
Short Drabble containing one of Echo’s near death experiences
(There is some Echo/Lesion, and this is definitely into the future, not the same time as current RPs)
Efficiency, efficiency is to find the path of less resistance in order to accomplish a task in less time and with better results. All my life I have always aimed to be efficient, tried to find short cuts, ways to simplify tasks, jobs, anything really with out being careless. Efficiency though, isn’t always an option and as I lay on the ground ears ringing as I gasp for the air that was knocked out of my lungs. My hands grasping at the ground thanks to that feeling of momentary shock and suffocation.
I can’t here shit, my vision blurry as I try look for my gun to see it nowhere near me. What was supposed to be a simple task requiring one operator and a simple police escort quickly turning into what might as well be my last day. It’s always funny how Hollywood thinks the hero always walks away from explosions with nothing happening to them. Let me tell you that they’re fucking liars, but as my vision begins to tunnel and the air seems to get cold, I don’t really care to explain why. All I care is for is reaching my side arm, as I rip the ‘charm’ off with my last bit of strength. In my last thoughts all I can remember is wishing, praying to see Liu one more time as I close my eyes, the day’s events going through my mind like a motion picture.
The day didn’t start out like this, to be honest it wasn’t too bad of a day, at lest at first. Maybe it helped that I actually managed to sleep for once thanks to a pair of arms wrapped around me most of the night. I can almost feel my body smiling at that memory, even if it hurts, I don’t care I’ll be numb soon, though... I feel the warm hands of Liu gently moving me. As I open my dark brow eyes, it’s him?
I greet him with a warm smile as I turn around to face him in my small bed from my apartment. I really need to upgrade my bed to a bigger model, specially since this visits and overnight stays were beginning to be more frequent, now that I was at least semi open about my sexuality. My hands gently running through my boyfriend’s shitty haircut as he slowly leaned in pressing his lips against mine. God, how much did I love this man.
“Hey lazy boy.” His voice mostly a soft whisper filled with tenderness and love as his hands gentle caressed my sides. I never understood what Liu saw in me, or why he stared at me with such fondness that almost made me melt each time. Not that I’m bad looking or anything but, well I’m definitely not better looking than him and he’s slightly older than me. Still not complaining just... questioning.
“Hey, good morning... prick.” I groaned softly, pressing my head against him, burying my face on his neck. “Ugh, you’re really making me go to the mission? Come on Six said that the area was clear. I’m just the insurance that the target stays safe.” I complained, more like bitch though that didn’t make Lesion change his mind.
With a gently push me moved me away before getting off the bed, taking the covers with him, that prick. “Masaru...” oh, “Six said there could be complications that’s why you have to go.” I groaned at those words, rolling off the bed as the rest of the morning faded into darkness with my next blink. I open my eyes expecting to see my lover but, what?
“Echo, the target it in the plane he is heading towards you. This is a simple extraction of a VI-” gunfire cut the message short and from the sounds of it it seemed as if a large fire fight had broken out. I rushed down the halls of the underside of the plane quickly reaching the VIP, some former white mask that had information to give, he’d said he only talk if he was extracted and relocated to a safe area. Well this wasn’t one anymore.
The gunfire stopped as suddenly as it had begun, I used my radio to try and reach anyone outside but nothing, silence. The VIP seemingly starting to panic as I got us into the luggage room, pulling out Yokai placing him on the entrance I hadn’t managed to block off. But still silence, it stayed like that for a few more seconds that seemed like hours to me. But then, I head a set of small explosions detonate followed by a loud thump on metal. Probably the door. My hands starting to sweat slightly as I looked through the security feeds and that it Yokai, I counted at least 35 white masks making their way thorough the plane clearing room... or trying to. Okay they were doing their best not that it was to rainbow standard. Still they were moving closer and closer until I could hear the steps moving down the hall. With that I moved Yokai to give me eyes through the soft wall of the hall. Cling, cling cling cling, the casings rang on the floor as I let my M5SD Fire a small quiet burst towards threat, the thump of the body falling down confirming the kill but also where I was.
In the next few seconds I watch through Yokai’s feed as two whole squads moved towards us, I shot every round in my gun, following through with a sonic burst from Yokai that allowed me to reload and take out the rest. The strategy worked for the moment until it didn’t. As one of the soft walls behind us exploded sending debris and making my ears ring. I fired a few shots into the squads of terrorists before trying to move through the other hall. Barely making it to the stairs towards the outside as heard the heavy breathing and could almost The the blue lights of one of suicide bombers.
Down on the ground there were some four white masks guarding the plane from reinforcements, which made it fairly simple to take them out, we had almost made it. Between us and relative safety were less than 50m of landing strip which we both sprinted. It was so close I could feel the sigh of relief already forming when a soft sound of a rocket came from behind us. Killing the VIP and knocking me out at the edge of the woods so close to safety.
Then all went dark, I’d realized all the events I lived were but a reliving of the day as that last bit of consciousness faded. My hand grasping the small charm of my boyfriend loosing its grip as the figurine dropped to the ground and a last breath left my lungs.
It was all done, yet I felt a hand on me... grabbing my hand, a huge pain on my chest making my eyes open again blinded by a bright light as I took a deep gasp of air sitting up before being pushed down again. But I didn’t panic the hand holding my own almost filling familiar, the muffled voices I could make out through the ringing in my ear already giving me enough information for me to squeeze Lou’s hand.
“You still have a boyfriend Liu.” I heard doc speak, of course, the only one that could’ve been capable of bringing me back, though I still blacked out again, waking up a day later in a hospital bed. My eyes blinking slowly as I turned to look at the man in dad shorts sitting next to me. “こんにちは、ハンサム” his eyes looked up, slightly watery but he managed a smile and I couldn’t help but smile back and look up. Whatever was out there, it had listed as I saw that smile one more time.
