A flood of stars hurtled skyward through the ink and silt. Another eruption of precious breath escaped Chaya in a fitful rush; wan moonlight wobbling on the dome of every fleeing bubble. The beauty of their erratic waltz went unappreciated and unnoticed. Chaya's current predicament was one which required her to swim deeper down into the night waters, while she very much wanted not to do that. The struggle left her preoccupied with trying not to drown. She wasn’t doing well in any of her endeavors. Each bubble of air that burst from her lips was life abandoning her in a liberating race to the surface. A surface very, very far away.
