Total eclipse of August 19, 1887 ukiyoe from Astronomical phenomena Nishiki collection 天文奇現象錦絵集 - Mr. Beated came to Japan from the United States, Mr. Terao (later Tokyo Astronomical Observatory first president) and other researchers traveled to Nikko etc. for actual measurement, time of eclipse etc.

Hey! Hope every one enjoyed the eclipse on Monday! I was able to go see it with my cousins at the local university where they had this sun spotter device. It basically reflects the light of the eclipse onto a sheet of paper, so if you didn’t the NASA approved glasses, you could still enjoy the eclipse. I took some sketches of the eclipse with its help to make this study, but I also had the glasses. It was so orange and really cool to look at, even if I didn’t get to see the total eclipse all the way through. I also tried to make an eclipse-inspired magical girl but the outfit wasn’t very...eclipse-like? I might post it later, along with an improved version.
