Izuku was beginning to feel like the luck that had gotten him through the exam had finally dried up. He was in a class with not only his childhood friend but also several other intimidating students.

He was fully prepared to choose a desk in the back row and do his best to not garner any attention--or wrath--as was his survival strategy in middle school. Although he doubted it would work this time, Kacchan was still angry that Izuku had managed to get into UA and ruined his hope of being the only student from their school to attend.

But, that’s when she walked in. The friendly girl from the entrance exam, the one with the kind words and infectious smile; and anti-gravity quirk. After the incident with the robot, he had been hoping that they would be able to be friends. And now she was in his class!

‘Maybe my luck hasn’t turned rotten yet, after all.’

Of course, predictably, he wasn’t the only one who had that thought. Several of the more amicable students had already swarmed the newcomer; introducing themselves before Izuku got the chance.

“Um,” He started in a quiet voice. ‘Come on, you’re all in the hero course, right? Time to act like it.’

“Um,” Not exactly brimming with confidence but it was at least louder “You’re the person from the exam, I mean, I wanted to thank you--for your help.”

Nervous didn’t even begin to describe it.

This was it, the moment of truth, ten months of training and studying and developing; today would show if any of it was worth while. If Izuku failed here, he would have to accept he wasn’t suited to be a hero.

Of course, while there was a few students with extreme confidence, most buzzed with the same nervous energy. Just this one group was twice as big as the number of students who would be accepted, and there were even more arenas where they wouldn’t even see their competition. Even those with amazing quirks could be cut.

“Amazing quirks, huh,” The boy muttered out-loud.

Pushing those thoughts away-it’s time to focus, not sulk-Izuku looked around to get a better idea of their surroundings before the exam begun. He then noticed he was standing right next to another student, one who probably heard his muttering.

“Oh, sorry, I wasn’t--I mean I was just thinking to myself. I didn’t mean to break your concentration or anything!”

Extra/notes:

Not only is Ochako Izuku’s first friend, she’s the first person to treat him as an equal (even Inko, who loves her son, doesn’t believe he can be a hero) and so Izuku trusts Ochako more than basically anyone else. Not that’s he’s inherently untrusting. But he’s unlikely to even ask questions when she suggests something, especially during battle. So their personal compatibility is Very High. Strategizing would take some practice, just so that they would be able to do so without communicating heavily in the middle of a battle.

for quirk compatibility I think Ochako’s battle suit would legitimately keep Izuku up at night. He’d lay awake, staring at the ceiling thinking ‘that suit isn’t going to protect her from Shit’. And so he’s developed quite a few items with Ochako in mind although he’s way too nervous to ever tell her that Maybe when he’s grown more used to the whole friend thing she’ll get to see them.

the items in question because i’ve thought about this a lot; 1. Inner-ear pressure points that double as communicators. I deal with motion sickness a lot and plugging my ears or chewing gum helps so; 2. Gloves/boots with small jets on them that will help with in air movement; 3. Expandable pole (think Robin from Teen titans because i’m unoriginal) which can be used as a weapon but also to prop up falling structures during rescues; 4. Lightweight armor, similar to a bullet proof vest, to make up for the lack of protection in the suit the support team made.

I wrote a post about this a while ago but a villain AU is unlikely to ever appear on this blog. Not because I don’t want to write one (I love writing bad guys, especially intelligent types who wage psychological warfare) but because I can’t see Izuku ever being a villain.

There’s just too much of a disconnect there. Sure, Izuku has been through a lot but being a hero (for him) has never been about glory or power but about something being a villain can’t supply; he wants to save people, help them.

It would take a change in his most basic of character traits. At that point he’d be an entirely different character. So, sadly, it isn’t meant to be!
