How to save money with office printing the zany Dutch way.

My cover letter just got shot by a Tommy Gun! SPRANQ, a creative communications agency, remixed the classic Verdana font type with embedded, slightly rounded circles to reduce the amount of coverage and ink in your average business letter. The green hype for this type may be little more than a marketing tactic for this media company. First, visual aesthetics of the shot up font could be a detractor for many because of readability. For best results, SPRANQ recommends limiting the font size to 9 or 10 points. This keeps the holes to ink at the optimal blend - not too small or too large, but just right. Second, the cost savings from using up to 20% less ink may be hard to acheive since the font has to be manually installed and selected in the application.

Conocíamos la EcoFont y la idea de reducir el consumo de tinta simplemente quitandole carga a la tipografía, es sin dudas genial. Pero hay que ser sinceros, la versión gratis (*) era… cómo decirlo… fea. Muy Myriad like. Y no daban ganas de usarla. Linda idea, pero no funciona.

Lamentablemente, eso pasa muchas veces con objetos de diseño “ecológico” que aunque tienen toda la buena intención del mundo, son sustentables pero no son lindos. Y no funcionan bien, porque ser sólo sustentable no es suficiente.

Por eso llegó Ryman Eco. Es sustentable, es linda y es gratis.

- Ojo! Es una tipografía pensada para ser impresa, no performa bien en pantalla! ;)

I just stumbled upon this thing. It's a font to save printer ink. They claim that you can save 28% of printer ink (with the arial font version). The principle is easy: they make tiny holes in the letters that are ignored by the brain. I did a little test and found out that there is only one font available for free here.

I found out that you can actually see the little holes in the letters, if you pay close attention. The free version is only one font. I wouldn't use it for essays and official papers. Maybe, if I don't forget, for printing e-mails or fast printing.

Una propuesta curiosa, su secreto: las letras están microperforadas, de modo que al imprimir se consume hasta un 20% menos de tinta.

Ya sea por ecología o por generar imagen limpia, es interesante, no la recomendaría para textos pequeños, ya que pierde definición, pero para ciertos usos puede tener su gracia. Sus autores son Spranq.
