Challenge: Green My Library
Lying under a tree, sipping cold brew coffee, reading a new book. What could be sweeter?
For us, knowing the book we are enjoying is printed on forest-friendly paper makes that moment perfect. Nothing beats the crisp feeling of paper, holding a printed book, and smelling ink while losing yourself in a story. Although paper production for books is linked to use of over 300 million trees a year, we've got some good news. Canada is leading the book industry in forest-friendly book production, giving us forest friendly options when purchasing new books.
Canopy has a collection of great Canadian novels from Yann Martel and Alice Munro, printed on 30% Canadian flax straw and 70% post consumer recycled content paper.
Another awesome way to enjoy a book with a lighter footprint is to borrow from your local library. It's also great to supplement your collection with e-books (here's 600 free e-books for tablets), and audio books (here's a collection of 500 free audiobooks).
For extra inspiration - here are seven modern libraries located around the world. They’re even eco-friendly, to boot. Green Reads is another innovative eco-friendly program that delivers books to guests via a vending machine that doesn't use any electricity.
