A recent link on the cycling 74 website led me to this project sometime shortly after presenting my idea of performing/interacting with plants. Since then I have decided to step away from using actual plants and instead make organic looking/plant like sculptural objects to interact with in an attempt to not be so literal. I know what the performance will be about for me, but I think it is important for me to leave it open ended enough so that the audience has space to draw their own conclusion and make their own meaning. Plus, I also realized that my own interests don't lie so much in the idea of nurturing plants but in ways to nurture life and growth in general.
The following is a project blurb from the groups website. There is not much information about the actual functionality of the piece.
"The project stems from the idea of creating a perfect synergy between architecture, nature and social technologies.
The name “St. Horto” is a pun, between Italian and English language. The two words “Horto” and “St” give at the same time the idea of a sacred, intimate garden and of something crooked, apparently disordered but full of life, just like a plant. Together they represent the irregular geometry (crooked or oblique) but highly controlled architectural design of the garden. St. Horto fits perfectly within the project area and at the same time it redefines the boundaries through a game of compressions and expansions creating a dynamic and attractive space. The concept comes to life from the observation of spinning methods: mechanical (woolen mill) and manual (spindle or mistaff)."
