It's September 27th, World Tourism Day. This event has been held every year on this day since its inception in 1980 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. The timing of World Tourism Day is particularly appropriate as it comes at the end of tourist season in the northern hemisphere and the beginning of tourist season in the southern hemisphere.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive social and economic impact on tourism the last couple years. Developed and developing economies alike have been hit, with the marginalized and most vulnerable, of course, having been hit the hardest. Restarting tourism will help kickstart recovery and growth. It's essential that the benefits this brings be enjoyed widely and fairly.
World Tourism Day 2021 presents us with an opportunity to look beyond the depressed tourism statistics and acknowledge that behind every number there is a person. Today let's focus on tourism’s unique ability to ensure that nobody is left behind as the world begins to open up again and look to the future.
The human desire to travel and explore is universal, which is why tourism must be open for everyone to enjoy. So too, the many social and economic benefits that tourism provides must be available to all. World Tourism Day 2021 highlights the power of "Tourism for Inclusive Growth." ☮️Peace… Jamiese of Pixoplanet
