Learn about the Swift trial of whole blood vs components with Halden and Zaf. Really interesting appraisal and lessons for real world practice. @stemlyns

Pre Hospital Extracorporeal CPR (ECPR) in the UK: The Sub30 study
This retrospective study explores the link between intra-arrest arterial blood pressure (IBP) and return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). A DBP threshold of 35 mmHg was identified as optimal.
Background We are having a bit of a flurry of Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) on St Emlyn’s at the moment! Following the podcasts from Alice Hutin (SAMU, France) on ECPR and Chris Bishop (C4TS, UK) on trauma ECMO, is the publication of Sub30: a feasibility study of a pre-hospital extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in patients with refractory out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in London.…
Podcast - Care in the Hot Zone with Claire Park at Tactical Trauma 2024
Listen to this fascinating podcast with special guest Claire Park about Care in the Hot Zone recorded live at Tactical Trauma 2024.
Emergency medicine is shaped by our ability to respond effectively to both routine cases and extreme, high-stakes incidents. While civilian incidents dominate prehospital care, the intersection of civilian and military experiences offers a wealth of insights. In this podcast, Claire Park, a veteran of 23 years in the military and chief investigator on a UK trial studying lessons from terrorist…
Podcast - Prehospital eCPR with Alice Hutin at Tactical Trauma 2024
Listen to this fascinating podcast from St Emlyn's with special guest Alice Hutin about prehospital eCPR.
At the Tactical Trauma 24 conference in Sundsvall, Sweden, St Emlyn’s hosts Iain Beardsell and Liz Crowe had the opportunity to speak with Alice Hutin, an emergency physician with Service d’aide médicale urgente de Paris (SAMU), about her work in pre-hospital emergency care, specifically in employing extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (eCPR) for refractory cardiac arrest. This post…

JC: ECPR for refractory OOHCA. St Emlyn's
ECPR in refractory out of hospital cardiac arrest OOHCA. The Netherlands experience shoes no benefit in NEJM published RCT. #FOAMed @stemlyns @gomorraDOC @ewoudterAvest
The use of Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (ECPR) has been considered by many resuscitationists as the next logical step in the management of cardiac arrest. This position is based on the understanding that when a patient goes into cardiac arrest many of our interventions are aimed at keeping the patient alive, but not at definitively treating the cause of the arrest. That can come…
