Thank you po sa pagsagot :3 I am from Cabanatuan's debatable 'science high school' hence also having some 'i have no idea where im supposed to live' issue. What about you senpai?
Hello there!! It’s you again dearest kohai! How’s it going? :) And by “what about you” I’m guessing you mean where I went in high school? I was from PSHS-Main Campus.
And sure, no problem! Feel free to ask me anything and I’ll answer naman as knowledgeably as I can. Tell me more about you! I’d love it if you’d add me on facebook, so that I could get to know you better. I hope you’d continue on pursuing BSIP as your course! See you soon, anon. :)
// Edit: Read the ask again and silly me, ngayon ko lang na-realize na you probably meant where I live (tama ba)? I'm from Malabon City so I take the LRT na lang to UPM. Hassle most of the time, since I end up super tired na by the time I reach home cos of the biyahe and all; but I love the feeling of home and of family, so I promised to myself that as long as I can handle it and my grades aren't compromised yet, I wouldn't resort to staying in an apartment/ condo/ dorm/ etc. :)
Hello, hello, hello, miss ecstaticforevermore! :) I'll understand if you won't answer this question right way, knowing the fact that UP students are busy as hell. Sorry to exaggerate that. But this dear lil' anon would like to ask some questions. I just passed UPCAT and I qualified for UP Manila. But there's this DPWAS thing, so I'm not yet sure where to go. Should we wait till April or June to know that there will be slots for us? Will there be an interview? Where is the best place for boarders?
Hi dear lil’ anon!! Congrats on passing the UPCAT! Even more congrats to you for getting into the awesomest and best UP campus ever!!! (just kidding hahaha)
Anyway, for your questions, I honestly have no idea about the DPWAS thing since I don’t personally know anyone who had the same situation. :( However, I’ll try to ask some of my blcokmates who might have some knowledge about the matter and I’ll tell you asap about whatever I could gather. I’ll just tag it under DPWAS, in case I’ll be able to find something useful. :) Meanwhile, this might be helpful somehow: http://academic-clinic.com/2012/04/dpwas-dpwsqualifiers-faqs-tips-and-walkthroughs/
As for boarding houses/apartments/place to stay, there are lots of those just around Pedro Gil and Padre Faura (streets around the campus). If you prefer condo units for rent, there’s Robinsons Place Residences, Victoria, University Tower, Birch Tower, etc. If you’re into apartments or dorms naman, there are lots around Pedro Gil where most of my blockmates stay. :) I’m not a boarder/dormer/condo-er/apartment-er eh haha, so I don’t know much din, but I could ask some of my blockmates. Just message me again for further details and info. :)
Hi! How's Industrial Pharmacy life in UP Manila? Do you have any tips or for incoming freshies?
Hello anon! Are you an incoming IP freshie? Ohmy, exciting. I wanna meet youuuu haha.
Anyway, for the question. To be honest, IP life is not the kind of life any college freshie would wanna mess with. It takes a lot of hard work and determination to get through all the taunting pressures of the profs (particularly your IP 121 lab and lec profs), difficulty level of the subjects [even the CAS (College of Arts and Sciences) subjects like Math 17 or Math 100 or Comm II], as well as issues with time management and things like that. I’m not trying to scare you haha, I just want to be realistic.
So here’s the bigger picture: In IP, you start out with 40 people in one batch. That means 40 freshies each year. As time goes by, the population of the regular students decreases by half (usually because of Pharm Chem 125, somewhere during the 1st sem of 2nd year). And by the time your batch reaches your 5th year of stay in UPM, an approximate of 8 people only end up graduating; the rest of the 40 people either shift courses or end up repeating some subjects. So you see, IP requires a lot of hard work and determination talaga. It’s quite a difficult course, but if you have the willpower, I’m sure you’d learn in time that it is do-able.
But you know what the advantages of being an IP graduate are? Well, for starters, in UP history, IP has always had a 100% passing rate in the board exams. Meaning, if you graduate from the course, it’s already a sure thing (more or less) that you would be able to pass the Pharmacy board exam. And also, UPM is the only university in Asia that offers this course. It’s like a rare thing ata, as far as I know. Imagine having more or less, 8-15 people graduating from the course each year in all of Asia; that’s something to be proud of. :> And even though it is really difficult to get A++ grades in IP, which makes it an issue to be a pre-med course, IP is actually a good pre-med in the sense that it gives you a good basic knowledge that would be very helpful if you want to take up Med someday. :) I know certain newly IP grads who got in Med naman, so it’s also possible.
For the tips, 1. Buy a planner; promise it helps! :)) Time-management is crucial if you want to get good grades. (I suck at this btw) 2. IP major subjects are usually very technical and exams usually have a broad coverage so it helps to study in groups. This helps me a lot! Study with some friends, or if your block is close naman, study with the whole block or something. We kind of did this one time, for IP 121 lab. It really helped save lots of brain cells haha. 3. Find time to be happy and to have fun with your blockmates or friends outside of IP every once in a while. It’s no fun to have a motto that says ‘All work, no play’. Take a break, sometimes. But of course, never lose your focus from studying. 4. Find something you love in each topic/ subject/ course/ whatever. :)) This sounds cliche, but srsly, loving something from what you’re required to learn helps in making the learning process more manageable. For me, I have grown to love my block as well as IP itself kaya even though the profs and majors give me a shitty time in studying, I still keep on going. No shifting promise! Woo! IP forever <3 haha
Sorry for the long post but a whole year in this course is really difficult to compress in just a few sentences or paragraphs. Hope this helps!! I wanna meet you btw, I’m friendly haha. Feel free to approach me. :) :)
