Farewell to Ed Farmer, former Chicago White Sox pitcher and long time White Sox radio broadcaster, who passed away at age 70. Although I haven’t heard a cause of death, it has been noted that he suffered from a kidney ailment most of his life and had to miss the end of last season due to failing health. “Farmio” played for several teams in his career and was primarily a middle relief pitcher. although he had 30 saves for the White Sox in 1980. He started in the Sox radio booth in 1991, working as an announcer and color commentator through last season. He and Darrin Jackson have been a team in the Sox broadcast booth for the last ten years. Farmer grew up in the Chicago area (Evergreen Park) and attended St. Rita High School in Chicago. When my older son David was very young, he thought Farmer was also Bill Nye the Science Guy. Rest in peace Farmio.
