Francesca / John / Michaela | Season 4 Promo 👀
"they dumbed Francescas story down by making it about her pinnacle" FOR YOU, MAYBE. I, a sad asexual, am sobbing for this poor woman, who clearly loves her perfect husband very much and is in pain, because she just can't seem to do it in the right way that society expects of her, even though she so clearly, desperately wants to.
The pure chaos and Bridgerton dumbassery of Anthony walking in on Eloise making out with Cressida is just comedic gold waiting to happen like,
Anthony: You will marry her!
Cressida: Yes, well unfortunately I cannot do so.
Anthony: Have you no shame, Miss Cowper? You have defiled my sister! She is ruined!
Cressida: And I would be happy to make right by her. However—
Anthony: No excuses! You will marry her or we will deul at dawn!
Benedict: Is it not ungentlemanly to deul a young lady?
Anthony: …yes well… you will marry her or… or Kate will deul you at dawn!
Kate: I’m not doing that.
Anthony: Babe, please.
Kate: You’re an imbecile.
Anthony: Fine. Colin will duel Miss Cowper.
Colin: Why must I be the ungentlemanly one?
Anthony: Because someone must!
Daphne: Someone must what?
Benedict: Deul Miss Cowper.
Daphne: Whyever would one of you need to deul Miss Cowper?
Anthony: Because I caught her in the act of defiling our sister!
Daphne: Right… well passion can sometimes get the best of us when we are in love. As long as Miss Cowper does the honourable thing and marries Eloise—
Anthony: She is refusing!
Francesca: Why would you refuse? You both seem so in love.
Cressida: I am not refusing! I am merely confused regarding how exactly I am supposed to—
Daphne: Worry not, brother. I will handle this. *cracking her knuckles* You will marry her or come the dawn our pistols meet and you will take your final breath in the presence of my gleeful victory.
Everyone: …
Benedict: Is anyone else suddenly very afraid of Daphne?
Hyacinth: Cressida and Eloise will make the most beautiful children.
Gregory: Do you think if I ask they’ll name one after me?
Meanwhile
John: Should we maybe… intervene?
Simon: Of course not. When it comes to the Bridgertons it is every man or woman for themselves.
Kate: She must learn to stand on her own. She’ll never survive this family otherwise.
Penelope: Survive this family? Do you actually believe they’ll make it to the wedding before realising two women are unable to wed?
Kate: No. But when love is involved the Bridgertons will find a way and love most certainly is. I called this six months ago.
Simon: Agreed. Though if they are to marry someone must first hunt down Eloise.
John: What are you talking about she's right… where the hell did she go?
Penelope: Oh she’s long gone. She snuck out as soon as Anthony brought up marriage.
something about john to remember is that even in the book, he was a good man. he was always bound to be a good man. francesca doesn’t fall in love again because her experience with her late husband was awful, it’s actually harder for her because who could truly replace john in her heart for the amazing man he was. the guilt fran and michaela feel is because, even though john would celebrate their love, not condemn it, john’s memory is of a man who lived everyday loving those around him and being the best he could possibly be. he doesn’t fit the archetype of a typical regency man, he was better. so, we all feel for him in absence. we, too, have to grieve that loss.
we normally expect a former husband to be terrible or evil, because it makes us comfortable with seeing her fall in love with someone else. but, that’s the point. francesca is supposed to have two great loves. john being a good man with purpose and michaela who makes her see the world in a new light. had john been a bad man, it would’ve ruined her search for love again and made it look like she’s only into women now bc john was awful to her, which was never supposed to be the case. the show developed him into more than we could’ve ever imagined bc his loss should be felt for the viewers, the way it was for the characters. he was purposefully written to be a character that would most definitely be missed when he was gone, not as a placeholder for francesca’s endgame. those happy that he’s gone didn’t understand the assignment, you didn’t have to love him, but you had to respect him and who he was to his wife and cousin.
john sterling was always written to be a good man. he was always bound to want, that even in his absence, francesca and michaela would have each other and find a (another) chance at the love they deserve. he will forever be the best bridgerton man.
I know one day Violet Bridgeton will host an event with all of her 9 kids, their spouses and 30 plus grandkids and bask in the glory of having successfully married off all them.

no but Colin really had the biggest friend group upgrade. he went from being miserable at the club with the Lord Bro Squad to having charcuterie dates with his fellow Wife Enthusiasts- Albion Finch, John Sterling, and Harry Dankworth. My man really leveled up
btw john definitely knows that michaela is gay AND also clocked in part 2 that francesca is too
so before he died he could finally feel at peace knowing that his cousin and his wife could be happy and free and that could do that with each other
