In 1949, 19 year-old model Grace Kelly sat for a portrait photography session with “Stars and Stripes” correspondent and artist Ed Vebell (1921-2018). The strikingly beautiful young lady was posed on a zebra skin chair in Vebell’s studio, most often dressed in a black off-the-shoulder gown and necklace for the shoot which was intended to complement an article on Joe Dimaggio.

Following Vebell’s passing in 2018, his family discovered a grouping of original prints and reprints from the now-famous photo shoot of the future Princess of Monaco. Included in this impressive lot is a group of eight 1949 prints of Kelly made by Vebell at the time of the photo shoot.

Currently being auctioned on Alexander Historical Auctions - obtained directly from Vebell’s family.
