DILETTANTES 2016, Eddie Love

I've recently become enamored with this word and how it so perfectly describes the tech generation. I remember it really started becoming a wide spread issue in the mid-2000s, when more people wanted to be and acted like they were famous for no reason - with no concept that ideas, creations and gifts to the world are what become famous, the people who create them are merely vessels. Notice how I left the background essentially blank, while the subject in the foreground is filled with the only color in the picture - symbolizing a sense of entitlement, full of themselves, looking at themselves in the mirror.

LYF IZA DREEM LUV IZA DRUG, Eddie Love

This is a new style I've been slowly developing over the past year on smaller projects and scraps, this is the first large scale piece completed in new style. The title is an interpretation of a lyric in a Coldplay song. The style of painting is loosely inspired by the work of an artist I follow on Instagram named Kindah Khalidy. I like this piece especially because its display versatility. It can be hung horizontally or vertically.

This piece is painted on a 2 1/3 inch wooden framed Masonite surface, it was damaged when I got it, so I tried to work within the concept of up cycling .

This repurposed Victorian-style framed canvas was found on the side of the road near my new house in Nashville. I brought it home and worked on it tonite, Sunday 081416. It's a loose representation of the police brutality we continue to accept as a part of everyday life while also relating to the old saying "too many cooks in the kitchen" - which is applicable to anything from politics to family vacations to rock bands. Hanging hardware is included.
