just finished rereading the first four bot books (like always) and just need to yap about something! so one of my biggest theories is that edel kavanaugh was also a teen addict just like joey and it was john’s parents who saved her and gave her a chance (she mentioned being a transplant at tommen and also being suspended her first day) and that’s why she was so obsessed with saving joey specifically and said more than once that he was her favorite of the kids. she wants to give him the chance that she was given herself as a kid and therefore her character is also proof that he can stay in recovery like her and raise a strong son.
