Holy guacamole, I really loved writing this chapter in the tale of Eden and Charlie and I know you’ll love reading it. Things are starting to heat up a bit more.
On a serious note, though, I’d love to get this story out there to more people, so if you know of anyone who is a fan of stories about two girls falling in love, will you do me a favor a recommend it to them?
You can also read the Chapter 4 here on AO3.
Thank you so very much to everybody reading. Let me know what you think of the story so far, okay?
Oh shit, ya'll. This chapter is so fucking good. Like, I know I wrote it, but I don't care, I'm tooting my own horn. It's got one of my favorite scenes I've ever written for anything ever. So much tension. Yummy, palpable tension.
Read it at Fanfiction or over here at Ao3.
I would very much like to hear what you think of this story! So, please leave me a little review or send me a message. And even if you don't, thank you so much for just reading.
Here it is, the highly anticipated second chapter of my Charlie and Eden spinoff fic! Okay, so it's not that highly anticipated, but I think some people are looking forward to it?
Please do heed the trigger warning I have placed on the chapter, but otherwise, enjoy.
As always, thanks for reading.
I'm so excited to announce that Charlie and Eden finally have their own story! Here it is!
If you're a fan of State Your Sting, I do hope you'll check out this, my new fic, all about shenanigans of my original characters, Eden and Charlie. It starts on the very first day they move in together as freshman and will tell their story up until that moment when they become an actual couple.
I'll tell you this upfront: I won't be updating this fic as frequently as State Your Sting. That one will still be my number one priority. But I do expect the chapters for Unfurled to be a bit longer. Unfurled will be much more focused on just the interaction between Eden and Charlie and not nearly as encompassing as State Your Sting is of their group of friends.
I'd love to hear from any and all of you and thank you thank you thank you in advance for reading.
Eden's Back Story
Hey Friends,
Here’s part two of the back stories for my OCs from State Your Sting. This one is about Eden. Hope you all enjoy! I’ll have a real chapter up a little later this week. Also, once again, my apologies for any inconsistencies. They aren’t intentional. Thanks for reading!

Eleanor Renmark, who goes by Nel, is a black woman who grew up in Brooklyn, attended Juilliard and became a concert pianist. When she started working professional gigs after graduation, a choir called The Babylon Chorale, hired her to be their new pianist. While working with The Babylon Chorale, she met James Langford, a white man, and tenor, who often soloed for the choir. He pestered her until she agreed to go on a date with him. He was arrogant and entitled, but also smart, funny, and passionate. Nel dated him casually for about 6 months before she found out she was pregnant. When she told James about the baby, she also told him that she thought they should get married. Nel was raised Lutheran and considered herself a Christian. She thought that getting married was the right thing to do. James told her that he would be in a monogamous relationship with her, but refused, point blank, to marry her. The two began a rocky relationship that lasted for 6.5 years, and resulted in 3 children.
Eden was born first. Two years later, her brother Gabriel was born, and another year after that, Esther was born. When Eden was 6, and her siblings were 4 and 3, Nel found out that James was cheating on her with another woman who was in the new choir he had started singing for the year prior. She broke the relationship off immediately and he didn’t protest. Although he always paid child support out of fear of being taken to court, James never played much of a part in his children’s lives after that, only rarely sending birthday cards or Christmas presents when he was feeling guilty. Nel always felt this was just as well, because the man had proven himself to be quite the ass hat, and she didn’t want a man with so little integrity influencing her children.
Nel had large family and she raised her children with help from many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, although her parents had passed away already. Nel was a strict but fiercely loving mother to her children. She always made sure they had everything they needed, but didn’t spoil them. She taught them the value of hard work and expected them to aim high and get good grades once each of them started school. She also raised them to be very involved in church. They attended service every Sunday and also went most Wednesday nights as well, for choir practice and Bible School.
Eden was a precocious child. She was stubborn and protective of her younger siblings, extremely responsible and also obviously talented from a young age. She inherited her parents’ musical ability. However, when she started learning to play the piano at age 5, Eden proved herself to be much more of a performer than either of them. Once she had mastered the basics, she demanded that her mother and siblings attend “concerts” that she would put on for them at least 3 times a week. She also started singing during these concerts and performing dramatic readings of some of her books.
From an early age, Eden loved to watch old musicals like The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, and Fiddler on the Roof. In fact, during the memorable week in 3rd grade that she had the chicken pox, she watched The Wizard of Oz a whopping 20 times and nearly drove her mother crazy performing Somewhere Over the Rainbow with oven mitts taped to her hands.
At 10 years old, for her birthday, Eden asked to go see a Broadway show. Nel took her to see RENT. Eden was completely captivated by the whole experience and knew, after that day, that she wanted to be an actress.
Nel noticed her daughter’s desire to be in the spotlight (it was hard not to) and put her in the church choir, which she herself played the piano for. Eden took the gig, as she did everything in her life, quite seriously. It satiated her thirst to be in the spotlight for a while, but soon she was begging her mother to audition for various children’s theater productions in the area. Nel agreed but with the stipulation that Eden maintain all As in school, or she wouldn’t be allowed to do theater anymore. Eden held up her end of the deal and by the time she started high school she was already a seasoned performer.
As a result of all this, Eden did become a tad arrogant, but her siblings often kept her ego in check. For one, they were both incredibly talented, too. Gabriel was a tap dancer and Esther played the violin. They also teased her and generally reminded her that she wasn’t that big of a deal if she couldn’t even kill a spider by herself. Eden was also so motivated and driven that although she was well liked at school, it was difficult for Eden to really connect with any of her peers, which made feel isolated sometimes.
Nel also spent a great deal of time communicating to Eden what a heavy responsibility it was to be an actress. She made sure that Eden understood that she was first and foremost a storyteller and that when she was on stage she was giving a voice to people and issues that had the potential to affect and influence the audience. She didn’t want Eden to become an actress just because she liked the attention and was relieved when her daughter seemed to understand what a serious life choice it was to pursue a career on the stage.
Eden worked extremely hard in school and maintained a 4.0 GPA. When it came time to apply for colleges, Nel expected her to want to attend a prestigious performance school in New York, and was extremely surprised when she found out that wasn’t the case at all. Eden applied entirely for small, liberal arts colleges that were out of state. Her reasoning for this was two-fold; she needed to experience other cultures and places so she could play more parts believably and she wanted to go somewhere that put an emphasis on a well-rounded education rather than focused on performing alone. She decided to attend Vallance when they offered her a full ride performance and academic scholarship.
Eden plowed through her life with such a ferocity bent on reaching her goals that this single-mindedness acted as a blinder in some ways. One of those ways was that she never seemed to spare much of a thought for romance or relationships. In general, Eden wasn't terribly introspective, perhaps because she spent so much time pretending to be other people. She assumed she was straight, because most people were. She didn’t feel the need to look into her sexuality until she met her roommate on the day she moved to Solomon, Illinois, and over the months, slowly but surely began to care more about her than a person normally would for a roommate or friend. The girl’s name was Charlie and Eden found her to be, simultaneously, the most insufferable, fascinating and beautiful person she had ever met.
