Eden on Fire Interview With Amy Gould (Amy is Endorsed by SIT Strings and WB Gear)
1)What’s something you listen to that might surprise people, given the music you make?
I like show tunes. Though some people may already have figured that out because I have performed a couple for my YouTube series, AmyOke Fridays. I'm a big fan of musicals and actually love to act. When I was a young girl I actually contemplated a Broadway career. However, I can headbang a whole lot better than I can dance. I am still a music nerd at heart.
2)If your band’s sound was a creature from folklore or mythology, what would it be and why?
Mermaid. And not the Disney kind—though yes, I can sing Ariel’s theme (see my reference to AmyOke). I chose a mermaid because early depictions were closer to sirens: mysterious, unpredictable, and powerful. But unlike sirens, whose intentions were always deadly, mermaids kept sailors guessing. One moment they could enchant and seduce you… the next, destroy you. I love that duality. Our music reflects that same unpredictability. Eden On Fire covers a wide spectrum of metal, something a few of our album reviews have praised us for. We have a power ballad like Fallen, a softer, emotional track, and then a heavy hitter like Queen Bee, where I lean into growls. You never quite know what you’re going to get—and that’s exactly why the mermaid fits.
3)What is the inspiration for "Villain"?
“Villain” is, at its core, a story about overcoming haters. After taking significant time away from music because of an abusive marriage, I returned to a scene where no one knew who I was. But Eden On Fire rose quickly. Within our first year, record labels were reaching out, radio stations were playing us, and our songs were breaking into their Top 10 charts. That success brought an unexpected wave of hostility—directed mostly at me. At one point, someone even tried to convince me to quit entirely because of the “drama” people claimed I was causing. But all I was doing was pursuing my art. And, as these things go, the less I fed the negativity, the more desperate it became. It started taking a toll on my mental health, which was already fragile from my past. But with the support of our fans and the people who truly knew me, I slowly stopped letting the attacks define my days. And despite every attempt to discredit or defame us, we kept rising. One night after a show, while I was venting about yet another rumor, a musician friend cut me off and said, “Amy… you are the villain they made.” I looked at him and immediately said, “That’s a song.” I went home, sat at the piano, and wrote it.“Villain” became my anthem for reclaiming my power. If people insist on painting me as the villain, then fine—I’ll own the title. Their opinions don’t shape my truth, and they certainly don’t get to stop me.
4)Who in the band would survive a zombie apocalypse the longest—and why?
Well of course I want to say "me." However, it's Steve Starvaggi, our drummer. This dude is the most prepared guy I've ever known. He's got his PB&Js and Gatorade at every show. We rehearse at his place and everything we need is there. He is very much on top of things in addition to being the best drummer I've worked with to date. He also is a skilled archer, so there's that!
5)Where can people catch Eden On Fire live in 2026?
We don't have a lot on the books due to some lineup changes. But we plan to add more after February.February 14, we have a local show in the Erie area at BWs Saloon in Fairview, PA. It's our first show since our lineup change so we are very excited to debut our new guitarist, Todd Sandberg. We are bringing A Common Crown from Pittsburgh and The Hallow Society from Jamestown, NY. It's going to be a great night of heavy rock and metal.February 28, you can catch us at Morsbergers Tavern in Baltimore, MD for the Wacken Metal Battle USA, East CoastWe’re hyper-focused on the Wacken Metal Battle right now. We were selected before the application window even closed, which was an incredible honor. If we win our regional round, we advance to compete for the Baltimore title. From there, the path moves to New York City, then on to San Diego. Whoever takes the top spot in San Diego earns a place on one of the stages at Wacken Open Air in Germany. It’s an unbelievable opportunity, to say the least.
6)What are your favorite venue(s) to play shows at?
I will have to say that so far in Erie we have a few. Big Bar here is an amazing stage with incredible lighting. It's a large room so that's a great place for big crowds. More intimately, we love playing The Last Shot. It's a tiny but mighty room to play. We have a great following there. And we used to love playing The Rathskeller Cafe, here but they closed their doors this past fall. It was a home for us so we were sad to see it go. Outside of Erie, we loved playing at the Blue Fox Billiards Bar & Grill in Winchester VA. That was a great room!

8)How would you describe Eden On Fire as coffee?
Robust with a hint of spicy cinnamon. But black, because "metal."
