#Bobtailsquid are masters of disguise! Specialised mucous glands allow them to glue sand and shells to their head and upper body. At night they use a light organ in their gill cavity which contains special glowing bacteria. The bacteria are fed sugars by the squid in return for making light. The organ contains filters which may alter the wavelength of luminescence closer to that of downwelling moonlight and starlight, thus allowing the squid to cancel its silhouette and remain undetected as it swims above upward-looking predators. #cephalopod #squid #cuttlefish #edithburgh #southaustralia #australia #ocean #animal #underwater #yorkepeninsula #underwatervideo #oceanvideos

You may have seen me babbling about Edithburgh. It is a place on the Yorke Peninsula that we visit regularly (next going in November...so looking forward to it...absolute beachfront, I adore it). it is about 320kms by road, but only about 50kms from Adelaide straight across St Vincent’s Gulf.

I like to watch dive videos to see what is under the ocean locally, a place I can’t go and I came across this guy. He is an American and he visited my backyard (a little bit like an older Gordy :D) and has done a really good job of filming and sharing some of the creatures he came across under the jetty I have stood on so many times.

I have been everywhere in this video (except in the depths of the water) and thought I would share it with you.

You may have heard of the Great Barrier Reef, but have you heard of the Great Southern Reef that is in my backyard? Meet the gorgeous bobtail squid and pyjama squid :D They are just amazing. I want to get out my paintbrushes to paint their astonishing colours (and I have in the past).

Spend sixteen minutes in my aquatic backyard.

World Windows 2020

Good morning and welcome to Sultana Point, Edithburgh, South Australia. This is sunrise in one of my favourite places in SA, March 2019.

It sits on St Vincents Gulf almost directly across the Gulf from Adelaide. As the crow flies it is about 50kms. By car it is 230kms, just far enough away to keep it nicely quiet (outside of public holidays :D).

Back in 2012 we visited for a weekend away and I fell in love with the place. The following year we visited for two weeks for my birthday as a treat, and the treat accidently became a regular occurence...oops :D

At the time we had very young children and the beach was perfect for them. Now it is just because it is quiet and I can sit on the decking and watch the tide go out while I pretend to be writing, beading or painting (all of which I take with me when I go there).

This is a White-Faced Heron. There is some great birdlife over there and I have been known to go nuts with my camera. Oops, I also included a Black-shouldered Kite from that same holiday.

Ooh, look, pelicans again :D

Here is a video of some of the beach’s smaller inhabitants that are just adorable :D And yes, it took me half of today to make the silly video because videos take forever, even if they are tacky ones like this one :D Enjoy!
