November 10, 1989 - Aaliyah appears on Star Search. ______________ Aaliyah {at the age of 10} makes her first ever national appearance on the hit show Star Search against Junior Vocalist Champion Katrina Abrams. She sings, "My Funny Valentine". _____________ Aaliyah wow’s the crowd with her soft yet powerful little voice but unfortunately loses to Katrina perfect 4.0 {Aaliyah only had a score of 3.25}. Although Aaliyah’s mother was backstage ready to give her daughter full support for the loss, Aaliyah still had a smile on her face and was determined that this would not stop her and more-so reminded her that she will not always win. _______________ Host of the show Ed McMahon said "There's a thing that you see when somebody walks out on the stage, I call it the fire… And that's what I saw with Aaliyah" The determined little girl went on to sign to a recording label {Blackground Records} and the rest is history.
