Edmonton Street Fest 2016!

So once again i checked out the infamous Edmonton International Street Performers Festival! (Now more known as Street Fest!). And of course, it didn’t disappoint!

I went twice this year, once in the evening, and again on the final day! I highly recommend if you really want to go next year, you make it a point to take in a couple days of it, and to make sure that one of those days, is the final days!

Usually during Street Fest there are three acts going on all at once spread out across all of Winston Churchill Square, and if it wasn’t obvious, all the artists who partake in the festival work INCREDIBLY hard (occasionally in ever changing weather conditions, especially here in Edmonton) to entertain their audience, and i would imagine it doesn’t feel very good when people walk out in the middle of their set to see what else is going on. HOWEVER if you go on the very last day, all the acts come together to do a grand finale GROUP show, and you get to see the highlights of each of their sets, in addition to their full sets earlier in the day. That way, if you miss one act earlier because you were watching another, you’re still able to catch them in all their glory!

There were so many great acts this year, but the one who stood out the most to me was Pandora Pink! (Louise Clarke) and her show “Pandora’s Boxes”. She has such a HIGH energy, and such an amazing sense of humor, along with great comedic timing that i would be so bold to put her up there right beside the wonderful Jennifer Saunders. She really knew how to pull the audience in, and make them laugh. In addition to doing wicked tricks involving boxes, and knowing how to juggle while balancing on a wobbly table, she also is a big fan of the King Of Rock n Roll Elvis! (One of my personal favorites). And utilizes a lot of his music in her act, from setting up her equipment, to dancing and doing hat tricks for her audience, even going as far as to dressing up an audience member in an Elvis cape and wig to help her with her act.

Of course the important thing to remember about this event is that the artist do NOT get paid to be there, they solemnly rely on the generosity of their audience members so be sure to bring money, and even if you don’t have any, they do really appreciate that at the very least you come up to them, and let them know you enjoyed their show.
