Getting things together...
Spring break is a great time to pull things together. Using the Explore function on Sheets, I can already see certain patterns emerging and I’m having thoughts about conclusions but I cannot be seen to be pre empting the data - I’m a scientist!!!
I’ve got my slideshow presentation roughly laid out too - feeling an element of control here...
More Testing Times...
So the Google Form went live and it was exciting to see how the responses flooded in - 84% completion rate at last check - some questions receiving the expected answers, some more surprising.
However... an email appeared suggesting that the security of the test had been compromised and that their were allegations of cheating occurring. To date, no proof has been found and so nothing can be done but there are several members of the cohort with (much!) higher than expected grades. Deep down I know that this impacts the baseline and I know the reliability of the data is now highly questionable but the data is raw and has been collected and I have to use it. I am using this setback as a learning point though and the secondary tests that the cohort will sit will be prepared and carried out in a more secure manner.
Testing times
Followed up Mareena’s email to the SUNY cohort regarding parental permission with Lee - no need to worry about anything as there are no photos and no published findings.
Grade 10 have completed their mid topic tests today (and yesterday!) and so we will soon have baseline data - woohoo!
The Google form has been written and shared with the Grade 10 teams for posting onto their classrooms - more data capture and closer to our triangulation!
Initial meetings
So I’ve had several chats with LK regarding our RQs and possible collection methods and all looks rosey - the DP chem focus on IAs at the moment is just rolling into this work!!
LK arranged a meeting with LW before SUNY today and things fell perfectly into place! Given the green light to complete essentially the same research, we have ideas for baseline data collection, surveys, change in approach, and Actioned data collection. Good day all round!!
