Rare Messerschmitt Bf109 E-1 to fly in Germany! (Time to read: 2min.)
German Meier Motors GmbH which is located at the former GAF base Bremgarten (EDTG / near Freiburg) has a very interesting restauration project. Robs Lamplough, a well-known enthusiast and collector of historic aircraft commissioned #MeierMotors with the restoration of a ultra rare #Messerschmitt #Bf109 E-1 to airworthy condition. The Bf109 E-1 is a very early version of this famous fighter. Despite the relatively bad condition of the fuselage astonishingly many original parts are reusable, also it is of inestimable value to be able to measure at the fuselage plant, nevertheless drawings, plan sets, even photos are quite rare. With the fuselage movement they 'll have a good basis for the reconstruction of this historic aircraft. The wings are in a good condition, as well as the tail units and other attachments. The engine will be a #DaimlerBenz601, of course. But let us take a look on the very interesting history of this rare 109: This ship had the Spanish service number C.5-88 and flew with the tactical identification 6-88 during the Spanish civil war at #LegionCondor. Captain Siebelt Reents flew this one and is mentioned in the various sources. Siebelt Reents was squadron captain of the 1.J/88 and took over the command in September 1938 from his predecessor Wolfgang Schellmann. The A/C was brought by ship to Spain and were thus the first of 44 „Emil“ in over there. After its time in Spain it is not clear what exactly happened to A/C. It apparently remained in Spain and was rediscovered in the 80s. Sadly the airplane was used on a Spanish airfield as a fire extinguishing object. In the 1980s the airplane was bought by Swiss enthusiast Jan Lütjens as scrap, later on it was aquired by an English collector. The plane remained there until today. After its restauration the Bf109 E-1 will appear in the same colour sheme as it flew in the Spanish civil war. Meier Motors webmaster is very busy researching the exact history of 6-88, which is not easy ‘cause many years have passed since then. If you have photos or further documents to this airplane you can give it to [email protected]. The crew of Meier Motors will be happy about every detail and every information. We want you to share this post widespread to enshure that the guys of MeierMotors can get some more information on this very rare bird. Thank you very much! (Photo source: © Meier Motors GmbH)
