Saw this Brazilian film for the first time in Rotterdam with dutch subtitles so that was smart. Having said that I watched it for a second time with English subtitles and honestly I didn’t gain a great deal more information although there were some really great lines that went over my head the first time
- everyone was naked like all the time and honestly I didn’t mind it. It was nudity in a really positive way as well like I mean everybody was naked not just the conventionally attractive people who we normally see naked
- something I remember being really funny about watching it in the cinema was how many logos there were before the thing actually started like how many companies did it take to get this off the ground? A fuckton
- the image of a huge truck running over a coffin and completely obliterating it was pretty powerful
- at the end I didn’t really know what was going on with the German guy shooting everyone
- lunga’s character was really cool because I assumed that she would use male pronouns because she was a very male presenting and masculine person so that was a really cool bit on gender they did
- the little ufo was a surprise
- the concept of it is really cool of a tiny place being wiped off the map by a politician and then the population rising up and killing the people who were hired to kill them? Genius. Somehow it wasn’t quite as well executed as the idea promises, but its still pretty solid
- ohhhh god the bit where one of the soldiers shoots a child was awful
- there’s a shot of someone lying in bed just before all the horses bolt through bacurau and fucking hell it was lit like heaven
- shit really started kicking off at about 40 minutes and at that point it felt like it was going to get interesting
- all of the people who the politician guy hired were fucking psychopaths I swear to god
- the conversation about if the bikers were white and where they could feasibly be from if they were white was supremely uncomfortable also I didn’t understand why they were shot. It felt like they’d done something sneaky but I didn’t know what that thing was
- there was a super random bit where two of the hired assassins had just killed a couple of people and they were really hyped about this so they had sex in a field to celebrate while the little satellite flew overhead with someone watching them through a camera who was apparently pretty confused
- I didn’t like the shot of the guys head blown off because a) very very gruesome no thank uuuu and b) it looked like he wasn’t human because the inside of his head was hollow and I didn’t know if I was meant to interpret something from that or if they literally just shot him so hard his brain flew out of his skull
- the end scene where there weren’t any people out in bacurau and the hired people were just walking around was really cool because I didn’t know what was going to happen so when it was revealed they were all hiding that was ace
- watching them all watch as the main bad guy walked down into the hole they dug to leave him there to die was very haunting
- I know this is a good film. It hasn’t stuck with me as much as others have and I probably won’t cite it as great inspiration to me. But its a good film nonetheless
- “migraine, nausea, feeling like death.” “That’s a hangover.”
