I got interested in Milton Singer and the history of semiotics at the Unviersity of Chicago. Of course, Chicago has done a good job promoting its history. The image above comes from an exhibition on the history of South Asian Studies at the University of Chicago. The picture below comes from their photographic archive.
Left to right: "Milton Singer, scholar of India, and the Paul Klapper Professor in the College and Anthropology, author R. K. Narayan, and Edward C. Dimock and Norman Cutler, professors in the department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations.”
