Edward is one of the last mutants that have not gone into retirement that is a veteran mercenary. His situation has to do with not only being able to get Mavis through college, but also to pay off a surgery where they had to remove one of his eyes due to cancer which is why he wears an eyepatch.
He was assigned to BlackRock prison to make sure that Nate's sadistic sibling Poison Dagger does not escape. While there he got to know Norberrt very well to the point that Norberrt actually decided to share a little bit about his origin. Aside from the dragon boss Edward is the only other person who knows Norberrt and Aarodilya's secret that they are not from planet earth and that they come from a world known as Norrath.
Now because of this Edward is actually scared that Mathis the person who has taken Norberrt hostage will find out this little secret and will use it to threaten Norberrt with exposure of what he really is.
