I've already been pretty fed up with the steel wool era with security breach being a mess with robots that might as well just be people because they're sentient. I'm not against the existence of Edwin and him making the mimic. But it's such a whiplash to say that all these robots that we can't even make today were made by this guy in '79, and then all the games that came after that were not nearly on the same level because it's a shitty retcon. And now all of these characters you've known and loved for years were actually made by this guy from books that are only 2 years old into a 11 year old franchise. And I see people say that "No it's not all of them!" But it's most of them and it really diminishes Henry and William as creators.
And my question is what does this even do for the story? Henry and William have been shown to be great inventors so why would they even need another person who they have to pay? And his story arc of a neglectful inventor father who has his kid die has already been done before, with Henry. And inventor killed by his own creation for his misdeeds has also been done before with William. I agree they needed to move on from the Afton storyline but putting the two most important characters in the blender to make Edwin isn't it.
They just could have easily made Edwin this guy that William and Henry hired to advance the animatronics and they saw that it (the mimic) was hard to control, mimicked bad behaviors, or was expensive to make in mass and didn't use the mimic and it can be years later (after the death of the founders) that fazbear Inc tries to find the mimic blueprints because they are unaware of the problems it has and just want to advance their business with new technology. Because as it is now it's Edwin made the mimic in the 70s and then he dies and fazbear tries to steal his shit and they send out multiple technicians who never come back and they just don't question it and never get presumably any of Edwin's shit. Which just seems so unlikely, because how do they get any of the characters then? Do they come back again after the mimic got out and just not question the multiple bodies in the building? It's just so convoluted just to add the mimic to the franchise.
It just feels like steel wool and Scott wanted to move the franchise past Afton and just completely wrote them off in the process because they didn't know how to add a new character without it fucking with the timeline so they just stuck it at the beginning, which brought in all the problems everyone sees now.
